A slow week on Milos

Milos is the island you visit for a weekend and leave three weeks later. We went to shoot the Summer 26 lookbook and, honestly, barely worked.

Where to swim

Sarakiniko gets the photographs — a moonscape of white pumice dropping into glassy water — but arrive before nine or after six. For a quieter swim, take the road to Firiplaka and keep walking past the umbrellas to the red cliffs at the end.

The real treasures are only reachable by boat: Kleftiko’s sea caves, Gerakas and the tiny cove at Tsigrado, where you climb down a rope and a wooden ladder to a beach the size of a living room.

“We shot the Hydra bikini at Kleftiko at 7am. By 10 there were eleven boats.”

Where to eat

Medusa in Mandrakia for grilled octopus hung to dry outside the door; O! Hamos for slow-cooked goat and a garden full of cats; and the bakery in Plaka for a cheese pie before the ferry.

What to pack

  • Two swimsuits, so one is always dry — we lived in the Kalymnos.
  • A cover-up that works for dinner, like the Kythira kaftan.
  • Reef shoes for the pumice and a big straw basket.

Go in June or September, rent a small car or a quad, and leave every evening free for the sunset at Plaka castle.
